Dealing with Dry Skin

Dealing with Dry SkinWe’ve all faced the issue of dry skin at one point or another, be it during the harmattan season or just on a random day. Dry skin can be quite uncomfortable and could get worse if not effectively dealt with. So, how exactly can we deal with dry skin and help restore it back to that natural, African glow?

What causes Dry Skin?

Having dry skin shouldn’t cause you to panic just yet, as it’s quite common. There are a couple of factors that could cause dry skin such as not drinking enough water, harsh weather conditions (like our ever faithful harmattan), nature of the water we use to bath (hard water) and some products that may just not be too friendly for our skin. Sometimes, some people just naturally have dry skin or may be affected by hormonal changes such as menopause.

What are the Effects of Dry Skin?

Not dealing with dry skin as soon as possible could lead to other issues such as skin cracks, wrinkling and skin irritation. Our beautiful skin certainly does not deserve that!

How to Treat Dry Skin

It’s all in the hydration! We need to identify the products that work well for our skin and apply them to keep our skin moisturized. One of the magic ingredients in keeping the African skin well moisturized is the evergreen Shea butter. (see more products here).

Especially in our humid climate, constantly drinking water is also very key in keeping our skin hydrated. Not the drinking water type? Try and set some goals for yourself, for example, drinking at least 2 large bottles of water a day, till it eventually becomes a habit.

Eating healthy could also play a vital role in bringing some life back into dry skin. Foods rich in water and essential vitamins like Vitamin A and fatty acids are ideal in reviving dry skin and are present in foods such as salmon, cucumber, nuts (don’t overeat them!) and avocado, which possess such nutrients that are beneficial for dry skin.

Give your skin some tender loving care by developing a simple, daily routine that gives your skin some extra attention. Our range of products rich in healthy ingredients such as Shea butter and coconut oil will help make this skin care routine even more relaxing whilst being gentle on your skin. Our handy products can also become your new handbag favorite, enabling you to keep areas such as your hands and lips moisturized throughout the day wherever you are.

Right from when you wake up to when you shower and go to bed at night, there are several basic products that can help keep your skin hydrated and healthy. It just requires discipline and commitment to stick to the routine daily. In case you’re worried about whether applying too much cream could cause you to sweat in our hot weather, no need to fret. Just identify the right amount (usually not too much) that works for you and stick to that, to avoid making you feel uncomfortable under the sun. Gently rub into your skin in small circular motions, taking a few minutes to give yourself some love. This helps your skin to absorb the cream better and helps to reduce the number of times you need to moisturize during the day.

Dry skin is certainly a hurdle you can overcome…the magic lies in loving your skin and giving it the care it deserves.
